The Jewish Calendar

  • How do you calculate the secular date of Pesach or Rosh Hashanah?
  • How many types of 19-year cycles are there?
  • In which case does a boy become a bar mitzvah after his younger friend?
  • When has Tu B’Shevat fallen on five different weekdays in five consecutive years?
  • Why is Birkas Hachamah never said on the same Jewish date twice in a row but is often said on the same date eighty-four years later?

Using his extensive research and sophisticated computer models, senior British statistician Michael Baxter gives readers unparalleled insights into the amazing Jewish calendar—and its enormous impact on our lives.

“The Jewish calendar is a very important topic that few people really understand…We owe a great debt of gratitude to Rabbi Michael Baxter for shedding light on this obscure area. He has written an outstanding book.”

Rabbi Yitzchak Breitowitz
