Behind the Walls is the inspiring true story of Chanah Kaufman's wartime experiences and survival. Chanah's comfortable life in Brussels begins to unravel slowly -- at first, the Jewish girls were no longer to sit next to their Christian classmates. Then Chanah could no longer play outside. Next, Jews began to disappear from Brussels. Chanah's parents began to sell their household possessions. And then Chanah is sent to hide in a gentile acquaintance's cellar until the war's end. Join Chanah in her seclusion in the cellar, as she is placed in a convent, and her rescue from behind its walls. Chanah's victory against both the Germans who sought to harm her body, and the Christians who tried to hurt her soul, is a testament to the strength of the Jewish spirit.

Who would have imagined such things happened?! We were amazed as we read and experienced the life of this courageous Bas Israel. We were saddened at the thought of how many may have been lost to other religions, and pray that Hash-m will spark them back. Miriam Cohen has a delightful writing style - this story was as real to our six-year-old as it was to his middle-aged parents! We highly recommend this book and have already begun passing it around the neighborhood. The story is true and gripping, you won't want to put it down. And when you're finished, start on "A Daughter of Two Mothers" - another excellent book written by Miriam Cohen!
